Hattiesburg Fire Department Receives $5,000 Grant

Hattiesburg-The City of Hattiesburg Fire Department (HFD) has landed a $5,000 grant from State Farm Insurance in a joint effort to put an end to fire deaths.  HFD will use the money to support their Fire Extinguisher Training Program which aims to educate individuals on fire prevention, fire safety and the proper use of a fire extinguisher.

“In educating individuals in our city and surrounding areas, we are working to lower the number of home/business fires, preventable injuries and deaths in our area and state,” said HFD Public Information Officer Geneva Morgan.

In the last 40 years, the HFD Fire Extinguisher Program has simulated a raging fire by pouring a mix of gasoline and diesel within a metal, burn pan, then setting it on fire for participants to extinguish. HFD is preparing to turn up the heat on future trainees as the department is set to purchase the Bullex Intelligent Training System Trainer’s Package, a live fire extinguisher, training simulator.

State Farm representatives presented the $5,000 donation to HFD on Thursday, Sept. 22, during a special ceremony. For more information about this grant or other endeavors, please contact Geneva Morgan at 601.545.6678.
