Hercules Property Environmental Investigation

Hattiesburg-As required by a May 9, 2011, Administrative Order from the EPA, Hercules is undertaking an investigation of potential on- and off-site contamination at or from the facility. The purpose of Phase I of this investigation is to determine whether any immediate risks to human health or the environment are currently occurring from chemicals that may have been released from the Hercules property. For the very latest details, click here.

Hattiesburg- Preparations for the City of Hattiesburg's 2013 National Night Out Against Crime event are underway. This year's theme: Hattiesburg: Encouraging and Supporting Our Youth – Today’s Learners...Tomorrow’s Leaders (HPSDTM).  Three students from the Hattiesburg Public School District will be honored during the National Night Out (NNO) celebration. The kick-off will be held Thursday, Aug. 1 at 5:30 p.m., with a rally on the steps of City Hall followed by a march to Town Square Park. There, participants will enjoy an evening of doorbusters, Contests, great food, educational exhibitors, health screenings, plus opportunities to learn more about National Night Out (NNO) -a nationwide crime, drug and violence prevention program. Download Flyer

Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch  and TARGET, and locally by the City of Hattiesburg and Forrest County, NNO  provides a unique opportunity for the City to join forces with thousands of other communities across the country in promoting crime prevention efforts. Police-community partnerships, neighborhood safety, awareness and cooperation are important themes of NNO.

Storm Debris Removal Deadline Extended

Storm Debris Removal Deadline Extended

Hattiesburg-City of Hattiesburg residents impacted by the February 10 tornado have an extra two weeks to get debris to the city’s right of ways for collection.

FEMA and MEMA officials approved Mayor Johnny DuPree’s request Wednesday afternoon to extend the deadline from April 15 to April 29.  “However, I urge residents to remain vigilant in helping us in our mission to run a smooth and timely operation,” said DuPree. “Please do not become complacent as it could prove costly for you and the City.”

Crews will continue to gather construction debris on Mondays and Wednesdays, and vegetative debris on Fridays and Saturdays.  Residents should continue to separate debris properly and avoid covering water or gas meters.
